Our curriculum

20190523_163817~2_edited_edited_edited.j

We are happy to announce that in January 2024 Curiosity Kids Childcare will begin using the We Skoolhouse curriculum.  This program does an amazing job at encompassing our beliefs and providing learning programs for each child at their personal development level. It is a flexible curriculum that allows us to follow the interests of the child. The following is information from their website.  Please follow the link at the bottom of the page for more information.

Early Childhood's Crucial

Role in Development

We Skoolhouse recognizes the critical importance of early childhood development and is committed to providing a comprehensive and nurturing environment for young learners.

With a strong emphasis on holistic development, we aim to equip children with the necessary skills and confidence to thrive academically and emotionally, setting them on a path towards a successful and fulfilling lifelong journey.

Infant

We support caregivers in creating a nurturing and stimulating space that lays the groundwork for their child’s future learning journey. Infants will:

  • Form secure attachments with caregivers, promoting emotional development and trust in the learning environment.

  •

  • Learn to communicate and express emotions through responsive interactions and engaging activities.

  •

  • Develop sensory awareness and motor skills through repeated exploration of open-ended materials and sensory-rich experiences.

Toddler

As toddlers transition into exploring the world with newfound independence, our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to provide enriching experiences that align with their developmental needs. Toddlers will:

  • Foster language development through consistent exposure to rich dialogue and vocabulary, books, and music.

  • Enhance problem-solving skills and creativity by engaging in child-led play with open-ended materials.

  •

  • Develop independence and self-confidence through repeated activities that allow for exploration and mastery.

preschool

Our curriculum for caregivers of preschoolers is designed to promote deep investigations and expand children’s understanding of the world around them. Preschoolers will:

  • Foster a love for learning and self-expression, empowering children to take ownership of their education and build confidence in their abilities.

  •

  • Enhance cognitive abilities and critical thinking through the use of interactive tools, hands-on experiences, and repetition of activities, fostering problem-solving and creative thinking.

  •

  • Cultivate social-emotional skills and collaboration through child-led play and involvement with the greater community.

How They Will Learn

Our program provides caregivers with holistic resources to implement at home with confidence and ease. Each month you’ll receive:

  • Suggested activities that target all domains of development (social-emotional, language, motor, and cognition).

  •

  • S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) and Music & Movement packets.

  • Resources on how to support and encourage your child’s play.

  •

  • 12 new meal recipes that include breakfast, lunch, and snack suggestions – gut health = brain health!

  •

  • And so much more!

outdoor play

At Curiosity Kids we believe children should spend time outdoors daily.  While we will not be out in severe or dangerous weather, we will go out in a variety of temperatures and conditions.  Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather each day so they are comfortable.  Make sure your child always has extra clothes in case they get wet or muddy!

Exploring the outdoors allows children to discover natural wonders like collecting leaves, observing insects, or building forts from fallen branches.  Such experiences foster creativity, problem-solving skills and a deep connection with nature.  Play outside enhances physical health as children run, climb and play games, promoting gross and fine motor development, while encouraging an active lifestyle.

The open-ended nature of outdoor play also cultivates resilience, as children learn to navigate challenges and adapt to changing environments.  Child-led unstructured play outside empowers children to be confident, inquisitive and socially adept individuals, ready to explore and engage the world around them.

About the owner

My name is heidi Petree

First and foremost I am a parent just like you! I have two children which I raise on my own. Finleigh is 7 and Evelyn is  3.  I have worked in the childcare field full time for over 25 years.  My time has been spent as a teacher in a daycare center, as a nanny and as an in-home daycare provider.  Most of my experience is with children ages 0-4 years.  I also spent four years as a foster parent before having children of my own.  There is something extremely rewarding about watching young children freely explore their environment and learn at their own pace.   I take pride in providing a safe, loving and developmentally appropriate space where children can grow and learn new things.  Parents should be able to leave their children in my care and know without a doubt that they are being played with, taught, loved and cared for.  I provided in-home childcare prior to becoming a center owner.  Providing care that is child centered has become my mission.  Having a small family like atmosphere and relationships is very important to me.  I love the small and cozy environment our center provides for children to grow in each day.
